Charities can create an online fundraiser or build a team through Razoo. They can also create a profile for their cause, complete with images, a story and/or video. Fundraisers allow Razoo charities to create a charity race or mission trip. Donations can also be accepted directly through the Razoo website. Team features are also included that help the charity monitor progress towards their financial goals. Team members can view a timer and thermometer progress meter, view comments and live donations and track team member activity through the Razoo leaderboards. Razoo was founded in September of 2006. Based in Washington, D.C., the Razoo team includes CEO Sebastian Traeger. The website’s name came from the term “Razoo” which is the name of a coin with the smallest face value. The concept was meant to encourage users to donate, even if they only have a little to donate. Over time, those small contributions can add up to a much larger value that may make a huge difference to a charitable organization and those affected by it.
Razoo offers many of the same features that other charity themed websites offer. The site provides a number of additional convenience as well. The team focused features allow charities to monitor efforts as a group and see how individuals on their team fared. Donors can keep track of donations for tax purposes and receive instant emailed tax receipts after completing a donation. The Razoo website provides visitors with an eye-catching color scheme and full color images that scroll through the homepage. The header features a deep blue with light spheres and a stylized image of the Earth in shifting dots. A new user can create a Razoo account by clicking the white “Sign Up” link in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage. The registration form asks the user for a first and last name, email address and password. The user must also check the terms and conditions agreement box. A second check box is automatically selected to sign the user up for the Razoo monthly newsletter. Those who do not wish to receive the newsletter should uncheck the box before submitting their information.
Razoo welcomes all users to create an account for free. There are no subscription fees and users are not required to make a donation. Non profit organizations can utilizes many tools through Razoo, some of which require a fee. The website invites charities to begin accepting donations through Razoo. Fees for this service begin at around 2.9%.
